I fashioned love for 90s skate punk (and skating), way back when I was nothing but a wee whippersnapper. Much like many of you no doubt, I grew up on the bands of that time and subsequently found my way to this record label upon the creation of it. Taking part in the OWR contest two years ago wasn’t exactly the start of my affiliation with One Week Records, but rather, the accumulation of everything that had come before.
I’ve listened to each One Week and own all of them in some form. Naturally, they’ve all inspired me. I kind of (really fucking wondered!) wondered what it would be like to design my own art for the cover, write this very bio, take a dump in the singer of Lagwagon’s house, hang out with him and other heroines or heroes of mine, have a round of shots with Harrison Ford, get drunk and lost in Los Angeles, stay in Katy Perry’s old house, pass out ‘playing’ a Star Wars pinball machine, and ultimately spend six sleepless nights and seven caffeinated and/or alcohol-induced days, making a One Week Record. Well, some of those things never happened. But what did happen has been laid bare in these songs.
This is my first full-length. To say I was shitting myself would be an understatement. Inevitably my inexperience shone through; occasionally serving up a heated debate with one of my biggest influences. That’s something I was entirely unprepared for too. Fortunately for me, Joey’s incredible wealth of experience, immeasurable patience, and kind-hearted selfless nature afforded me constant guidance. When we started, we barely knew one another. We’re now good mates, and I have to thank him for all the above and much, much more. His brain is all over these songs. The result means this record is very much ours, as much as it is yours or mine.
I have a pretty piss poor memory, but it will be hard to forget any of the memories or people who either contributed to shaping the sound of this record, put up with my crippling self-doubt, or provided me with the possibility to make it happen at all. You are all damn champions.
